AA member of the government’s communication team, Samuel George Nartey says the founder of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings, heard God's call and joined the party's campaign to retain power in December.
Jerry John Rawlings, who has been a fierce critic of the ruling party for the past three years under late President Mills, earlier this week announced he would join the campaign of President John Mahama who is seeking re-election in the December 7 polls.
He also urged disgruntled party cadres to reconcile their differences and forge ahead for an NDC victory in next month's elections.
Sam George Nartey, who was speaking on Joy FM and Multi TV’s programme Newsfile said Rawlings' decision was based on the fact that he had seen the “light”.
“Jerry John Rawlings, for want of a better expression has heard the call of God, and has heeded and repented, and has seen the change in the NDC…today he has full comprehension of the hope in the NDC, full comprehension in the shining light in the NDC which John Dramani Mahama [has brought about]…he’s seen the change, he’s seen the hope...” Sam George said.
The NDC activist added that the game of politics is about numbers and going into the December elections, the NDC would need everyone to vote for its candidate if it is to retain power.
But Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako said he was not particularly surprised at the former President’s decision, adding that the only consistent thing about Mr. Rawlings are his inconsistencies.
