Thousands of NDC leading members and party supporters in the Greater Accra region marched through the principal streets of the capital on Saturday November 24, 2012 to participate in the ‘John Mahama Victory 2012 Health Walk’.
The 4 hour brisk walk was amidst fun fair with brass band music, “jama” groups and campaign songs urging the electorate to vote for the President of the Republic come Election Day.
The Health Walk which was under the auspices of the national youth Organiser of the party, Ludwig Akpene Hlodze, started at about 0700hours from the Tetteh-Quarshie Roundabout and went through 37 Military Hospital junction, the Kawukudi Park, Nima, Liberation Circle through to the National Theatre road and ended at the Hearts Park behind the Arts Centre.
Greater Accra regional Minister, Nii Layea Afotey Agbo, Deputy Ministers of Information and Interior, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Kobby Acheampong respectively, Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Ade Coker, some parliamentary candidates from the newly created constituencies and the mother ones also participated in the walk that attracted persons from the age group of 15years to 70 years.
Addressing participants at the Hearts Park after the walk, the National Youth Organiser, Ludwig Akpene Hlodze, used the occasion to remind the youth of the party that the energy displayed at the health walk must be sustained and employed during the campaign season till the last ballot is cast and counted towards securing victory for P{resident John Mahama.
Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Layea Afotey Agbo challenged the opposition New Patriotic Party to learn the discipline within the NDC as displayed once again during the exercise, to embrace political tolerance and denounce their all die be die mantra which he described as a dangerous posture to Ghana’s democratic credentials.
Other speakers charged the rank and file of the party not to be complacent on any day but must add up to the President’s campaign by going into the homes of electorates to educate them and expose the deceit of the opposition parties in the lead up to the general elections.
Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Ade Coker stressed the need of voters to vote for the President and all parliamentary candidates contesting on the ticket of the party and to disassociate themselves from those who broke ranks with the party by deciding to contest as independent candidates.
