Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, on Wednesday night told students and lecturers of Takoradi Polytechnic that his government will spend a chunk of Ghana’s oil revenue on Education and Health. He said the best way Ghana can make a brighter future for the next generation is to use part of the oil money to provide free Basic Education to the young ones, up to Senior High School. He was speaking during a visit to the Polytechnic. The students of Takoradi Polytechnic, who composed several songs to welcome the NPP Presidential candidate, sang and cheered as Nana Akufo Addo made his statements. The venue of the event, the auditorium, which was fully packed, was built by the NPP while in office. Some speakers took time to make a case for voting the NPP back into power, pointing to some works done by the party in its 8 years in office, the biggest among them, Ghana’s oil lying under the belly of the sea, off the coasts of Takoradi. Nana Akufo Addo reiterated his plan for Education and Health, the two key sectors he would spend most of the oil money on, as he spelt out at the IEA debate last Wednesday. He believes this is the best legacy Ghana can leave for the next generation, when the oil and gas run out. “We have to learn from the history of other countries. We don’t have to make the same mistakes as other people have done”, he said, referring to the oil curse. He blamed the NDC government for wasting Ghana’s wealth in the payment of “dubious judgement debts” most of which he said were paid to NDC cronies. He asked the students to be vigilant on the Election Day to ensure that change comes on December 7.
