Youth leaders of the two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have pledged to expose any of their supporters involved in acts that undermine the peace pact signed by presidential candidates yesterday in Kumasi.Skeptics say the Kumasi Declaration is cosmetic in spite of its high profile nature.According to them, the absence of a binding clause spelling out clear sanctions could make it difficult to hold people who violate it to account.But the NDC and the NPP, whose supporters are collectively responsible for most of the electoral violence, are taking up the challenge.Youth leaders from both sides have committed themselves and their members to the peace pact.NPP National Youth Organizer Anthony Karbo told Joy News that his group’s members are very much committed to a peaceful election, a sentiment backed by the party.His only concern was that personnel, security agencies and institutions involved in the electoral process may be biased in the fulfillment of their duties.He also promised that if any member of the party interferes with the peace of the nation, they will ensure that he turn himself in to the authorities.NDC Youth Organizer Ludwig Hlodze also told Joy News he is explaining to all his group members the importance of tolerance and of allowing security agencies to operate unimpeded in case of any conflict.He said that his party believes that their achievements over the years will win them enough votes to clinch the presidency, so he sees no reason why they should engage in violence.According to him, the party hopes that not even a single drop of blood will be spilled, and for that reason they have been telling the youth to focus on lauding the policies and achievements of the NDC.Meanwhile, Police Inspector General Paul Tawiah Quaye is promising adequate security before, during and after the elections.He warned that the police will deal ruthlessly with any person or group which tries to disturb the peace.He said that police officers have been asked to demonstrate complete neutrality and to avoid the use of wanton force.He has therefore called on all Ghanaians to vote freely and without fear.
