Nana Okofor Amoako Boamdem III, the Chief of Enyan Abassa in the Ajumako Traditional area in the Central Region, has called on President John Mahama to relieve Chieftaincy Minister Alex Asum-Ahensan of his position.
According to Nana Boamdem III, the Chieftaincy Minister has failed to visit all the Regional Houses of Chiefs to confer with them as a Chieftaincy Minister should.
He made this recommendation as President Mahama called on the Central Regional House of Chiefs during his campaign tour of the region.
“I don’t understand how a manager can manage an institution or any programme without first touching base with the very people he is meant to serve,” the chief said.
“Talking about the Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture, his constituency is 'Nananom' [a local term for chiefs]. If you cannot spend the first year of your assignment visiting your ten houses of chiefs, I dare say that you are useless to our institution,” he stated.
He advised President Mahama to sack Mr. Asum-Ahensan if he is retained in office after the December 7 polls.
President Mahama, who is wrapping up his campaign tour of the region today, asked the chief to send a formal proposal before he addresses the issue.
