Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has picked up his 1980 M.Sc. Economics Degree certificate from the University of Ghana, Legon. The move comes on the heels of allegations leveled by a New Patriotic Party (NPP) group called the Young Patriots that Amissah-Arthur did not graduate from the University of Ghana as he claimed on his CV, which originally listed his graduation year as 1976. The group claimed to have conducted an investigation and subsequently discovered that Amissah-Arthur did not graduate in 1976, leading them to accuse him of fraudulently acquiring the degree. The Vice President has since denied the charge. He told Joy FM he earned his M.Sc. Degree in 1980 and not in 1976 but had yet to pick up his degree. On Friday, he went for the certificate, ostensibly to put an end to the controversy that he described as “a storm in a tea cup.” Addressing a press conference in Accra, he said that said he hopes the “obsession” with his certificate will come to an end. “I have collected it so everybody has seen that there actually was a certificate," he added.
