Former President J.A. Kufuor has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of resorting to vote buying ahead of the December 7 elections and warned the party that the conscience of the Ghanaian people is not for sale.Speaking to a large number of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters and leading members who had braved hours of heavy downpour in Kumasi to attend a rally, Mr. Kufuor said that Ghanaians are wide awake and discerning and that they will vote the NDC out, especially because the vote buying money came from the state.He asked why the NDC, which claimed to have undertaken many development projects, was using handouts to entice voters. Ghanaians, he said, yearn for development and the transformation of the economy, both of which have been promised by NPP presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, rather than election-time gifts from the NDC.Kufuor predicted that the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo would decisively win the December 7 elections in the first round.He explained that Ghanaians had already decided on the NPP because of its solid record of past achievements as well as the policies and programmes proposed by Nana Akufo-Addo.Former President Kufuor, who stood drenched in the rain, said that all those vying for the presidency have laid bare their policies and that Akufo-Addo promises economic transformation, freedom and justice and free senior high school education.He told the crowd that unfortunately for the NDC, even though it was the incumbent government, it had failed to tell Ghanaians what it would do and instead resorted to attacking the NPP.He told the party faithful that their indifference to the rain was a clear indication that they were ready to lead the way by voting massively for a resounding NPP victory, adding that regions not considered NPP strongholds have also decided to vote in large numbers for the NPP.Grateful to the huge crowd at the Kumasi Jubilee Park that had braved the rain, Nana Akufo-Addo told his supporters that they had honoured him and urged them to go out and vote massively for the NPP.He advised the people not to feel intimidated by NDC threats.Nana Akufo-Addo, whose speech was occasionally interrupted by deafening shouts of “free education,” expressed surprise at the determination that had inspired the crowd to spend hours in the rain.He thanked God for seeing Ghanaians through four years of poverty and hardship brought about by NDC governance and assured them that this chapter of Ghana’s history will come to an end on December 7 when the majority of Ghanaians will vote to kick out the NDC and usher in the NPP.He spoke of the NPP's plans to transform the economy, generate employment opportunities and also institute free senior high school for all.It was at that time that the stage caved in, sending all those standing on it tumbling to the ground.When the crowd witnessed the accident, some supporters dropped to their knees and prayed to God to intervene for the safety of their presidential candidate and other leading party members including former President Kufuor.Minutes later, when their prayers had apparently been answered, Nana Akufo-Addo mounted the stage again, expressed gratitude to the Almighty God for allowing him to escape unhurt, and promised the people that victory was on its way.
