There has been a crunch meeting between the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), and the Northern Regional Security Council over challenges in the on-going voting exercise.
The emergency meeting in Tamale between the two leading parties was called to address concerns over hitches in the voting process especially with the verification machines.
Several reports from some polling centres indicate that several voters have not been able to vote because they could not be verified by the verification machines.
The EC has, however, stated that “no verification, no vote” meaning if a voter is not verified, that person should not be allowed to vote.
President John Dramani Mahama speaking in an interview with Joy News’ Election Headquarters asked the EC to allow voters with valid Voter ID cards cast their votes even if the verification machine fails to recognize them.
He said it is unfair to disenfranchise some people because their identity cannot be verified by a piece of equipment.
The NPP was however of the view that the EC must stick to its rules that every voter must be verified before they cast their vote.
More soon.
