Tension is rising in the northern region as the two major political parties- National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party haggle over whether or not to allow voters to cast their ballot without being verified by the machine.
Hundreds of people are likely to be disenfranchised following widespread breakdown of verification machines.
Others have also been turned away because the machines could not identify their fingers. The incidents have left many, including the chiefs, livid and are asking the EC to do something about it.
Leaders of the two parties are meeting with police chiefs in the region to come to a consensus on the matter but there appears to be no end in sight as the parties have taken entrenched positions.
The NPP officials are sticking to the EC rule, saying “no verification, no vote” as agreed at the Inter Party Advisory Committee.
The NDC officials are ready to have the process continue even without the verification process.
The Director of Communications at the Electoral Commission Christian Owusu Parry told Joy News the EC cannot change the rules.
He said it was agreed by all parties that without verification, there will be no vote, adding, the EC cannot change the agreement in the middle of the exercise.
