Your Election Headquarters, the Joy News and Adom News have projected that President John Mahama is the likely president elect of Ghana.
Joy News' Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Samson Lardy Ayenini and Stephen Anti who made the projection at 0707 GMT after thorough analysis of the figures said the projection is based on results from 261 constituencies across the country.
President Mahama polled 5,032,002 votes representing 50.03 per cent of the total votes cast to beat his closest contender Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party who polled 4,797,297 votes, representing 48.05 per cent.
The Election HQ says it has a confidence level of 98 per cent in the results declared so far and added that the 14 constituencies left to be declared represented about 800,000 votes.
The President John Mahama has to garner 310,000 votes representing 36-38 per cent of the remaining ballots to secure a one touch victory whilst the NPP's Nana Addo has to garner over 800,000 votes representing 73-78 per cent of the total votes remaining to secure a one touch victory as well.
With the remaining constituencies left which appears to favour the ruling party, Joy News is therefore projecting that this election will be won by President John Mahama.
This projection is purely based on provisional results gathered from the various collation centres across the country by the team within the Election Head Quarters.
The Electoral Commission which is mandated by the constitution to declare the certified results of the 2012 elections is expected to do so within 48 hours after day two of the polls ended, Saturday.
The poll which started on Friday had to be extended following breakdown of verification machines across the country, a situation which denied many from casting their ballots.
The 2012 elections recorded a high turnout of 81 per cent of total registered voters.
