The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) is calling for the immediate resignation of Electoral Commission (EC) Chairman Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan.
The pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) pressure group is accusing the EC chair of superintending over widespread fraud in Friday's election.
At a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, spokesperson for the group Dr Ayew Nana Afriyie said Dr. Afari-Gyan has failed Ghanaians and must resign.
“We think the Electoral Commissioner failed in discharging his responsibilities because the pathway through which the figures were massaged did not come through the NDC HQ. It came when the EC was performing its sovereign responsibility.
“So we have no problem with the NDC but we have a reason to go for a court of enquiry on the EC because the commissioner has failed and it is about time that he should resign and go,” he stated.
His comments follow angry protests by supporters of the NPP who have hit the streets in Accra in wild protest over the election defeat.
Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie also called on the police to be fair in the discharge of their duties.
He said it would be suicidal for the police allow themselves to be used by the government to oppress members of the opposition.
