Presidential policy advisor Dr. Sulley Gariba has urged job seekers to stay off the president’s transition team adding the law does not mandate the team to fill in vacant positions in the president’s administration.
As expected by law, president elect John Dramani Mahama put together a 24 member transition team to see to a smooth handing over of office; which in this case will be to himself.
This situation of a government handing over to itself has become a source of worry for many over how accountable the process will be.
But Dr. Gariba assures this transition will be different. On the Midday Brief on JoyNews on Multi TV he said “this transition team will not consider applications for employment, it is not mandated by law to assist the president in constituting the next group of ministers or cabinet…there are a number of things it cannot do therefore people should not inundate the transition team…..”
Dr. Gariba pointed out that the process must be free of prejudice as it is a critical move in ensuring continuity and accountability in governance.
Admitting that the constitution makes provision for a government to hand over to itself as is the case now, he explained the three fundamental values that characterize the transition team. These include, preparation of handing over notes, stock taking and continuity in parliament.
