Upper Manya Member of Parliament-elect Jeff Kavianu has expressed gratitude to the electorate in his constituency for showing him and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) overwhelming support during the just ended 2012 general election.Speaking in an interview, he reported that constituency executives of the party, chiefs and people in the area contributed significantly to the party’s landslide victory in both parliamentary and presidential elections in Upper Manya.“I thank God and the people of Upper Manya constituency for giving me the opportunity to serve Ghana through Parliament and I am very humbled by this kind gesture,” he said.Mr. Kavianu, a contractor based in Koforidua who is going to the august House for the first time as one of the NDC new faces, promised to keep faith with the people for the confidence they imposed in him.He called on his constituents for their total support and cooperation in improving local education with a focus on eliminating schools under trees and to ensure that all new school buildings are accessible to the disabled. The School Feeding Program, he said, will be expanded to cover all deprived areas in the constituency and the provision of free school uniforms, textbooks and bags will continue. The MP-elect said he would not renege on his promise to establish a scholarship fund for brilliant but needy students to further their educations. He said that since agriculture is the principal occupation of his constituents, “my agricultural policy would focus on attaining food security for the constituency, income security for farmers and fishermen and emphasis would also be on the use of science and technology to revolutionize agriculture.”Mr. Kavianu promised to allocate 20 percent of his MP’s common fund to promote agriculture in his constituency as well as to facilitate loan acquisitions for farmers in his area.
