The NPP presidential candidate for the December polls, Nana Akufo-Addo on Thursday called on leaders of Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches to explain to them the various reasons that informed the NPP’s decision not to accept the results of the 2012 elections and what measures the party is taking to address their grievances.The NPP leader explained that “the party came to the conclusion after examining evidence available, that the results that was put out by the Electoral Commission (EC) is not a true reflection of what actually transpired and that is why we have chosen to challenge it in the constitutionally designated forum, which the Supreme Court.”Nana Addo in his submission, acknowledged the need for some key organizations and bodies to be briefed at first hand, what exactly the party is up to, “and that is why we have come today to see you respected men of God in our country” Nana Addo added.He said “it is also important that I come over to you personally for this exercise for the reason also that a lot of propaganda is going on out there that the NPP and I have set out to bring trouble to Ghana.“I have come to assure you that none of that is true and the NPP and I remain committed to the values of the respect for the rule of law, for democratic values and for the freedoms and liberties of our people.” He noted that “the NPP tradition has even sometimes fought for these values and will be the last people to do anything that will undermine peaceful and stable democracy that Ghana continues to enjoy.”Nana Addo underscored the need for the voters voice to reign supreme and not the counter, collator or declarer of the votes “but in this particular instance the NPP has good reason to believe that that has not been the case.”In conclusion, the NPP Presidential Candidate assured that the party will continue to operate within the confines of the law and not do anything to disturb the peace and stability of Ghana.He also used the occasion to thank all Church leaders across the country, “because it is obvious that God listened to your intercessory prayers for peace and we are all living witnesses of that.”He said “on the campaign, I visited a lot of your Churches across the country on Sundays to fellowship with your congregants and I cannot end without thanking all of you for that honour.On his part, the Chairman of the Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Apostle Dr. Opoku Nyinah commended Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP for choosing to use the avenue of the Supreme Court to make their case.He said “the decision of the Supreme Court will strengthen our democracy” and prayed that all will abide by that decision when it is finally made.Apostle Onyinah is confident that “the will of God will prevail and in the final analysis the Ghanaian people will say He has done it again.”Nana Addo also called on Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and the leadership of the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches at the premises of the Action Chapel International for the same purpose.Nana Akufo-Addo was accompanied to the meeting by the NPP National First Vice Chairman, Mr Fred Oware, MP for Anyan Sowuatuom, Hon Shirley Ayorkor Botcwey, MP for Tarkwa Nsuaem, Hon Gifty Eugenia Kusi, MP for Tema West, Hon Irene Naa Torshie, NPP Director of Administration, Mr Opare Hammond and NPP Director of Operations, Lord Commey.
