Edward Doe Adjaho, former MP for Ave Avenor has been sworn-into office as the Speaker of the Sixth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
The MP-elect for Akatsi South was sworn into office by the Chief Justice, Georgina Wood after the dissolution of the fifth parliament of the Fourth Republic.
The former Ave-Avenor MP becomes the first Speaker of Parliament to have been drafted from the august house. Doe-Adjaho's feat comes against ones chalked by the late D.F. Annan, late Peter Ala Adjetey, Begyina Sekyi Hughes, and recently Joyce Bamford-Addo who have led the house.
The new Speaker per the provisions of the 1992 Constitution will vacate his parliamentary seat and consequently there will be a by-election at his Akatsi South Constituency within the next 60-days.
Edward Doe-Adjaho also administered the Oath of Allegiance and the MP's Oath to the 273 MPs who form the sixth parliament of the Fourth Republic.
Former Deputy Attorney General and MP for Cape Coast North, Ebo Barton Odro was elected as the First Deputy of Speaker of Parliament whereas NPP's MP for Essikado, Joe Ghartey was also made the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament putting an end to initial rumuours of PNC's MP for Builsa South, Alhassan Azong was been considered for that position.
The sitting for the new parliament has been adjourned and would resume later this morning for the inauguration of President-elect John Mahama at the Independence Square.
