By the time you read this little piece, Ghana’s Black Stars would have beaten, drawn, or lost to the Moroccan national team in the ongoing continental soccer tournament in Ghana.Whatever the outcome, life goes on, as we say in Ghana. There are many other equally, if not more important things for us to concern ourselves with.We have four great stadiums – meeting modern international standards – from the north to the south of the country to cater for our soccer needs. If we are as passionate a nation, as we say we are for soccer, then let’s see these stadiums creating the kind of soccer greats we expect to harvest goals for us at every tournament. And not only that, let us see to what extent we can raise revenue from these stadiums to maintain them and invest some in the sector for soccer development. Patronage of these temples dedicated to the art of the “beautiful game”, will determine how serious we are in our passion for the game.I must comment on the national hysteria that followed the Black Stars match with the Warriors of Namibia, just because the Stars could not harvest as many goals from the Namibian side as did the Moroccans. Gosh, the unkind words...The vilification of some particular player(s). Is that not the same kind of mindset that we approach our politics and other national pursuits with?No wonder our Golden Jubilee faded away at the end of 2007 in a whisper – or was it even a whimper?! Whatever...Accra Mail
