Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has delivered a heartfelt tribute in honour of the late Samuel Aboagye, Acting Deputy Director-General of Operations at the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), who tragically passed away on Wednesday, August 6.
Mr Abogye died alongside seven others when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region while en route to Obuasi.
Describing Mr Aboagye as a “bright and promising leader”, Dr Amoakohene recalled their close working relationship during the 2024 general elections, where the late public servant served as the Regional Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region.
“I had the privilege of working with him as Regional Secretary in the 2024 elections,” he said.
“And his dedication to serving the good people of Obuasi East and Adansi Asokwa can never be undervalued.”
Speaking at the Evening of Reflections and Memorial for the eight victims on Saturday, August 6, the Minister hailed Mr Aboagye’s values, calling him a beacon of what leadership among Ghana’s youth could and should represent.
“To us, the youth of Ghana, we say that Samuel we have lost a bright and promising leader. A young leader who proved that politics could be about service, humility, and integrity.”
Dr Amoakohene stressed that Mr Aboagye’s legacy will not be defined by the number of years he lived, but by the impact he made on the lives of those around him.
“His story reminds us that leadership is not measured in years lived, but in lives touched.”
He said Mr Aboagye’s loved ones and institutions will miss him dearly.
“Samuel, your wife Abigail will miss you. Your two daughters will definitely miss you. Your mother will miss you. The family will miss you. The NDC will miss you. NADMO will miss you. And of course, Ghana will miss you,” he concluded.
