Accommodation for teachers posted to the Aboduabo D/A basic school in the Western Region was a challenge for many years.
Headteacher of the school, Oliver Timothy Gyening expressed worry about how teachers who were posted to the school refuse to stay due to lack of accommodation.
This affected the academic activities and the output of teachers.
Through a Community Consultative Committee (CCC), an appeal was made by the education authorities and the leaders of Aboduabo to Chirano Gold Mine for the construction of teachers’ quarters to mitigate the challenge.
The Chirano Gold Mine has brought some relief to teachers.

The Chirano Gold Mines Limited has built a five self-contained room and water system at a cost of GHC 195,000 for teachers at the Aboduabo D/A basic school.
Terence Watungwa, Vice president and General Manager of Chirano Gold Mines Limited, believes the quarters will encourage teachers posted to the school to stay longer.
“Through the Community Consultative Committee (CCC), an appeal was made by the education authorities and the leaders of Aboduabo to Chirano for the construction of teachers’ quarters to mitigate the challenge.
Today, I am excited to say that Chirano Gold Mines has fulfilled this request by constructing this very beautiful teacher’s quarter for the Aboduabo basic school.
He continued that, “…we are very hopeful teachers’ quarters will encourage our teachers from the basic school to love this community and stay longer to impart knowledge to our young ones for a brighter future”.

Headmaster of the Aboduabo D/A basic school, Mr Gyening lauded the mining company for the swift intervention.
He however noted, “the quarters will improve teaching and create a conducive learning environment for teachers”.
Chirano Gold Mine Limited has also commissioned a new Junior High Block for the community of Etwebo in the Western Region.
