Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA), is embarking on a four-day working visit to South Africa.
The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and furthering the development of armwrestling across the continent.
During his stay, President Osei Asibey will engage with key figures in South African sports, including the Minister for Sports and Culture, the National Olympic Committee (NOC), the Sports Commission, the South African Armwrestling Federation, and other influential stakeholders.
These meetings will focus on exploring ways to enhance the growth of armwrestling in Africa, promote the sport, and create more opportunities for African athletes to compete at international levels.
The President will also share his vision for the future of the sport in Africa and discuss strategies to strengthen the governing body of armwrestling on the continent.
A highlight of the visit will be President Osei Asibey's meetings with SuperSport, Africa’s leading sports broadcaster, at the Multichoice House.
These discussions will aim to secure broadcasting opportunities for armwrestling events, thereby expanding the sport’s reach across Africa.
Additionally, he will be the guest of honour at the 2025 National Armwrestling Championship of South Africa, scheduled for April 4 and 5, where the best armwrestlers from South Africa will compete.
His attendance is expected to bring prestige and excitement to the championship.
"South Africa is a pivotal hub for armwrestling, and we are excited about the potential this visit holds for the sport’s development in Africa," said President Osei Asibey in an official statement issued before the trip.
"Through collaboration with key stakeholders, including broadcasters like SuperSport, we can significantly enhance the visibility of armwrestling, provide new opportunities for athletes, and fortify AFA’s role as the sport’s governing body across the continent," he concluded.
His visit is anticipated to result in productive discussions and partnerships that will positively impact armwrestling in Africa.
During his time in South Africa, he will also meet with officials at the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria to further solidify relations.
