The Deputy Head of Joy FM’s Political Desk says it is curious that consistently, some leaders of the opposition New Patriotic Party only express anger against their own party and not government.

Malik Abass Daabu says despite the known eloquence of the NPP's General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, “anytime he is angry, his anger against his own party”.

The commitment of First National Vice-Chair Freddie Blay has also been questioned.

The NPP is struggling to hold an image of unity as Kwabena Agyepong fights Freddie Blay in the media. The power struggle is disintegrating the perception that the NPP is ready to take over the reins of power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“They accuse themselves more than focus on what the government is not doing which is the primary duty of any opposition party,” Mr. Daabu observed.

The 2016 flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo is hoping that the party's internal wranglings will go away if nobody talks about it in the media. He has cautioned party faithfuls to ceasefire in the media.

But there has been no need for a ceasefire in the NPP’s arch-rival, the NDC.

Leader of the party, John Mahama promised a one-touch victory once again while submitting his nomination forms for the presidential primaries slated for November 7.

Barely four months to the December 2012 elections, an embattled party snatched one-touch victory as promised by President John Mahama.

"Ï will expect that all of us will in unity and togetherness, go into battle” President Mahama told cheering supporters as the 2016 elections beckon.

This is because the NDC is the “obvious choice of the people”, Mahama maintained.

A writer Nana Awere Damoah also charged Ghanaians to make an effort to individually hold the government accountable as he tries to do on facebook. He told the Joy FM Super Morning Show that it is important for civil society to also demonstrate its ability to hold government to its promises'.

The writer is hoping that for the sake of democracy, the NPP will put its act together and fulfil its responsibility as a check on the Executive

The Joy FM Political Desk believes that by this time of the political season, the NPP ought to pick each manifesto promise after the other and hold government to account.

But the NPP is ”leaving the government to do as it pleases”, the Deputy Head of the Political Desk believes.

Malik acknowledges that the President is “more confident this year than he was last year“ despite a struggling economy and perceived incompetence.

All the Presidents internal opponents, critics and rebels such as veteran politician Alban Bagbin have stopped criticizing him.

Dissent has “died down” and the party has a “solid front”, Malik Abass Daabu noted.

But he declined to give too much credit to politicians.

This is because President John Mahama has also been plagued by internal opposition and was also criticized for failing to get his communication team singing the same tune despite his famed expertise in communication.

Malik Daabu believes the troubles in the NPP will give the NDC cause to feel confident 15 months to general elections in December 2016.

He, however, warned that a lot can change in the NPP from now until December 2016 which may prove challenging for the president's re-election bid.
