The opposition National Democratic Congress is berating government over what it says is the high cost of living inflicted on the people of Ghana in the first 100 days of the Akufo-Addo administration.

The party says the 15% hike in transport fares has only worsened an already precarious economic situation of the ordinary Ghanaian.

Addressing a press conference Tuesday, in an apparent rebuttal of the 100 days achievements by the NPP, the Deputy Minority Leader James Klutse Avedzi mocked Dr Bawumia, accusing him of doing little to arrest the suffering of the Ghanaian.

He said for a running mate and others who made "loud noises" in opposition should ordinarily be championing excellence in government and ensuring a palpable improvement in the lives of the people.

The Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia trumpeted what he said were 103 achievements in 100 days during the Multimedia organised town hall meeting programme to assess the performance of government in the first 100 days.

Key of those achievements were a relatively stable economy hinged on an impressive performance of the cedi, a downward trend in inflation, improvement in the foreign exchange reserves and a reprofiling of the suffocating debt it inherited from the erstwhile government.

He also chronicled successes in the agricultural sector which have led to the employment of 1,200 extension officers and a 50% cut in fertiliser to boost production and other strides being made in other sectors of the economy.

Exactly a day after Dr Bawumia advertised the successes of the government, the opposition NDC is ready with a rebuttal, describing government's performance as poor.

James Avedzi, in a no holds barred rebuttal said Ghana's scant resources "can never be safe in the hands of president Akufo-Addo."

He said the first 100 days of the Akufo-Addo led government has been nothing more than a demonstration of a government with a penchant to be profligate.

According to him, the 110 ministers and deputy ministers appointed by the president with special assistants some of whom are more powerful and well paid than chief directors at the various ministries is nothing more than job for the boys who helped the party win power.

Contrary to a presidential directive banning the purchase of new vehicles by all ministries, departments and agencies, Avedzi claims cars have already been bought by the presidency.

Even though he did not give any evidence of the cars bought, he stated emphatically that the president, who already has bullet proof cars in his possession cannot under any circumstance, justify the purchase of new vehicles for his use.

 "No amount of spin can justify the purchase of vehicles," he stated.
