Supporters of National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer hopeful, Prof. Joshua Alabi in the Krowor Constituency in Accra, have joined forces to mobilise party supporters to a rally in the area for former President John Mahama.
The youth activists in Nungua also pledge to continue to honour the former President even as they work towards their man, Prof Alabi to take over as the Presidential Candidate of the NDC.
"Our father and son Joshua Alabi is taking over from him, so we have to come out to assure him, that as our former leader and former President, we will never disrespect him.
“We will continue to cheer him and give him reverence, even as we give the baton to our own Professor Alabi to go fight NPP in 2020," Mr. Eric Nii Bonney told Myjoyonline.com.
Mr. Mahama is scheduled to visit the Krowor constituency between October 30 and 31 as part of his campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region. He will meet constituency executives on October 31 to share his comeback message with them.
Nii Boney, who coordinates ward chairpersons for the NDC in the Krowor Constituency, was confident that the visit by the former President will be peaceful and that there will be no tension leading to undesirable outcomes in the constituency.
"There will be no hooting, no insults, no negative chants, absolutely nothing. It is an NDC rally. If something negative happens, it will affect the image of the party.
“This is an internal contest which at the end of the day, Joshua Alabi will need the former President to support him to fight NPP," the Klowe-Koonaa Ward Chairman said.
Mr Nii Bonney who is a staunch NDC activist and a delegate said, he and his family of Joshua Alabi, will attend the Mahama rally in response to invitations sent to them and announcements made in the community.
"We're encouraging all the people to come out to also come to listen to the message that the former President has for the delegates," he added.
There is tension in the NDC party following opening up of a contest for the position of Presidential Candidate of the party for the 2020 elections.
Prof Joshua Alabi is seen as the most probable candidate to floor the former President who has some advantages including his popularity, the support of his appointees and available resources.
The rivalry between the two came to the fore recently when supporters of the former University Vice-Chancellor accused the former President of copying one of the campaign messages of their Prof.
