The Accra Metropolitan Assembly is set to drag tiGo to court for illegal breaking and entering after AMA locked up the offices for non-payment of a huge debt they owe the assembly. The Chief Executive Officer of AMA Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, described the actions taken by the telecom giants as irresponsible and against the laws of the Assembly. The offices of telecom giant Millicom Ghana Limited, operators of tiGo were locked with padlocks by the task force unit of AMA on Wednesday December 22, for non-payment of a debt of 200,000 Ghana cedis they owe the Assembly but tiGO officials broke the locks.Speaking on Citi FM, an Accra radio station, Mr. Vanderpuije noted that they will prosecute them to serve as a warning to other companies that owe the Assembly.“It's been there way before I came to office; the situation was the same with the previous mayor but there comes a time that we must call timeout and this is the time”.“It goes to register the level of indiscipline that must be put to a check and we are ready to do that. We will prosecute them for that offence so that it will be an example to others. AMA will not tolerate those kinds of activities. The AMA has in recent weeks directed its fury on business entities in the capital, locking up offices of those who have defaulted in payments due it.Story by: Adwoa Gyasiwaa/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
