The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, says the constant rumours about his death were part of a grand plot by detractors to discredit him.

Rumours about the supposed death of the Ashanti king spread like wild-fire on social media, when he had travelled to South Africa for medical check-up.

He, however, dismissed the rumours with a visit to the Local Black Black Stars, who were then taking part in the CHAN tournament hosted in South Africa.

On his arrival from South Africa, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was in tears after thousands trooped to the Kumasi Airport to welcome him. He said at the right time, he would comment on the matter.

In an interaction with  the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Nuhu Sharubutu at his palace, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu said the rumours of his death were nothing but the evil works of his detractors.

He said the  allegations suggesting he bribed judges to influence the outcome of the 2012 election hearing at the Supreme Court, and other acts of impropriety linked to him are part of a plot to discredit him.

The National Chief Imam and a delegation of Zongo chiefs had paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene at the Manhyia palace on Friday.

The Asantehene said as a public figure, he has developed a tough skin for such outright untruths having been the centre of many such fabrications.

Additionally, he noted that before and after his ascension on the throne, there were fabrications about how he had duped people in the UK, as well as an alleged cocaine scandal linked to him.

The Asantehene said his call to duty has been to serve Asanteman, and that he has done to the best of his ability.

On rumours about his death, the Ashanti king said it is only God, who can determine that.
