A member of the Ashanti region branch of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has told Joy News he will go to court on Thursday to work in defiance of a decision by the association to withdraw its services.
The Ashanti GBA’s strike is to protest what they describe as the NDC’s attacks on the judiciary. NDC Chairman Dr. Kwabena Adjei on Tuesday accused judges of bias against government and called on the Chief Justice to purge the system.
He warned a house cleaning exercise will be done within the judiciary if the CJ fails to act.
A section of Ghanaians especially lawyers have been angered by the comments culminating in the decision by the Ashanti Regional Bar to withdraw its services starting today.
One of its members James Marshal Belieb however says the decision is illegal because the right procedure was not followed.
Even though he agrees the comments made by Dr Kwabena Adjei were in bad taste he believes the reactions and criticisms from well known lawyers and the public are enough to demystify whatever perception created.
He believes a strike is too stringent an approach to resolve the matter.
