A five-member team from Moneygram and experts from H20 Solutions are on their way to Asuboi, a farming community in the Ashanti Region plagued by river blindness.
Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah who broke the story of the plight of the 2,500 people is leading the delegation to the community to provide boreholes to improve the water situation in the area.
Moneygram is sponsoring the provision of the boreholes.
A few weeks ago Joy FM reported that the lives of over 2,500 residents of Asuboi, a farming community in the Offinso Municipality in the Ashanti Region are at risk of river blindness unless there’s urgent intervention.
Health officials, the report said, had estimated that over 70 percent of the population was already infected following the invasion of black flies in the area. Many people especially children are with all manner of skin disorders including rashes and lesions, which cause intense itching.
The situation is compounded by the inability of health workers to reach the people with medical care due to the poor nature of the roads, rendered hazardous following frequent rains.
The reports pricked the attention of Moneygram who are now sponsoring the drilling of two boreholes for the people.
