The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Benjamin Kunbour, has refused to appear before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament to account for the GhC 51 million judgment debt payment to Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome.The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Albert Kan-Dapaah, who made the disclosure at the fact-finding body’s sitting on Tuesday, described the Attorney General’s position as “unfortunate” and total “disregard” of the Committee’s work.Dr. Kunbour in a letter to the committee said the controversial judgment debt case is still in court and his appearance before the committee to discuss the same issue is prejudicial.He has also refused to furnish the Committee with any document relating to the GhC 51 m judgment debt case hence making it difficult for PAC to deliberate over the issue.He has up to Wednesday, October 24 to appear or furnish PAC with all documents related to the case else he will be subpoenaed through the Speaker of Parliament.Mr. Kan-Dapaah said “the AG has absolutely no right to refuse to appear before the committee” and should have gone to the Supreme Court to immunize himself from the case.“It’s most unfortunate for the Attorney General to treat us that way,” Hon. Kan-Dapaah said.The legislator, however, expressed his gratitude to the witness Mr. Woyome for accepting to submit himself to the Committee “in spite of the views he holds.”
