Professor Azumah Nelson, a retired professional Ghanaian Boxer, was involved in an accident at Odorkor on the Kaneshie-Mallam road Saturday night.
Professor Nelson, the former two-time WBC featherweight champion, according to information gathered, was brutally injured and is currently on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital receiving treatment.
Eyewitness account indicated that Professor Nelson, who was driving a Ford 4x4 red vehicle with registration number GE 9116-11 attempted to take a bend towards Kwashieman from Sakaman near Mallam, when a Nissan Almera with registration number GS 5593-13 and driven by Kaku Moses ran into his vehicle.
Professor Nelson, who was severely injured as a result of the impact, bled profusely and was consequently rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.
However, the taxi driver, who also got injured, was sent to the same health facility for treatment but he was discharged that same day.
DSP Abdulai Mumuni, the Odorkor Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) Commander when contacted confirmed the accident to the paper adding that it occurred around 10:30pm in the night.
He said both cars are currently at the police station, while investigations are ongoing.
