Rising badminton star Moslena Ama Korama Adu of Gomoa Jukwa-based SDA Senior High School has been named the winner of the maiden Elite Schools League (ESL) Sports Personality of the Year Award.
The award scheme was instituted to recognise the most outstanding student-athlete in the country and celebrate excellence in school sports.
Moslena received the award from the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, in recognition of her exceptional performances during the 2025 academic and athletic year.
She topped a shortlist of six nominees, which included her twin brother, Obapomba Adu-Mintah (Badminton, SDA Senior High School), Phillip Odjer Tettey (Athletics, Koforidua Senior High Technical School), and Godfred Opoku (Athletics, Komfo Anokye Senior High School). Also nominated were Portia Nkrumah (Athletics, Edinaman Senior High School) and Philemon Azumah (Athletics, Ghana National College).
The year was defined by Moslena’s dominance in badminton, as she amassed an impressive medal haul and established herself as a leading force at inter-school, regional, national, and international competitions, including zonal and regional Inter-Schools and Colleges events.
Her crowning achievement came at the maiden African School Games, where she delivered a stellar performance, winning two gold medals and a bronze.
Moslena also showcased her versatility at the zonal level in the Central Region, adding gold medals in table tennis and volleyball to her growing list of honours.
As part of her prize, she received a laptop and a commemorative plaque, sponsored by Refuge IT Security Solutions Ghana Limited and LifeTouch Inc.
The award was instituted by the Elite Schools League (ESL), a not-for-profit organisation leveraging digital media to promote, market, and broadcast school sports competitions across Ghana. Through this initiative, ESL aims to increase visibility for inter-school sports, provide student-athletes with a structured, media-rich platform to showcase their talents, and bridge the gap between schools and Ghana’s professional sports ecosystem.
