The bodyguards of Mr Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister were assaulted in Nsawam at the weekend.
The incident occurred on the Nsawam – Suhum road when a three-vehicular convoy of the ministers, returning to Koforidua after a tour of some registration centres at Ayensuano District was crossed by a green Kia truck with registration number GX 749-14.
The driver of the truck resisted arrest by the two policemen and was joined by six other persons who assaulted them (policemen).
One of the attackers bit the hand of the bodyguard of Mr Vanderpuye and tore the name tag on his uniform.
The bodyguard of Ms Frimpong, on the other hand, lost some buttons on his uniform, while the driver got his dress torn in the process.
The incident led to a traffic jam on the Nsawam-Suhum highway for close to 30 minutes but the ministers intervened and called back their bodyguards to enable them to continue with the journey.
