Sunderland manager Steve Bruce expects a clearer picture on John Mensah’s transfer to the Stadium of Light in the next 48 hours.
Mensah’s agent Fabien Pivuteau had said he expected a deal to be completed by end of Monday but Bruce reckons it might take a bit longer than that even though he eventually expects the Ghanaian center half to sign on a one year loan deal.
Bruce said on the club's website:"It is fair to say that we are very close to reach an agreement with Lyon. We will know more in the next 48 hours but we hope to recruit."
The deputy Black Stars captain, deemed surplus to requirement at Lyon, looks set to make the Stadium of Light his next home on a one-year loan deal with the option of a permanent deal if he impresses.
Piveteau says it has always been Mensah’s dream to play in England, but the timing of it was enforced after Lyon told him they did not need his services for the new season.
His only season at the Stade Gerland was marred by injuries and sending offs, but he is confident he can put all that behind him and become a hit at Sunderland.
If the deal goes through, it will mean at least three regular Ghanaian defenders play their football in the Premiership with Richard Kingson and John Paintsil already there
