In their bid to be part of the Golden Jubilee parade at Asamankese, a group of butchers decorated a bull in the national colours and went with it to the Methodist Park, the venue of the parade.But their fun plan went horribly wrong when the bull took fright, apparently because of the crowd went berserk and attacked some of the spectators at the event. It was shot dead by security personnel at the parade but not before it had wounded six people, one of them seriously.Veronica Acheampong,a 22-year-old National Service Person, who was gored in her thighs by the animal had her wounds sutured at the District Hospital.The five other victims, Lucy Nuertey Tetteh, Janet Agesu, Agnes Konadu, Master Fredrick Quarcoe, and Priscilla Kpabitey were treated and discharged.DSP John Yamba, District Police Commander, told the press that the butchers, Samuel Sarkodie, Illiasu Issaka, Latif Sulley and Andrew Atuah entered the parade ground through a broken fence.The four were arrested from among a group of butchers who took the animal to the ceremony.The District Chief Executive, Kwabena Sintim Aboagye who visited the victims, appealed to the media to be circumspect in their reportage.This was in apparent reference to some FM stations which immediately after the incident, announced that Ms Acheampong had died.Dr. Ekow Kaitoo, District Director of Ghana Health Service, who attended to the victims, said that nobody had died, adding that Ms Acheampong was in stable condition and would soon be discharged.Source: The Ghanaian Times
