Business activities grounded to a halt on Thursday in most parts of Accra following torrential rains on Wednesday.
Joy Business checks reveal most banks did not open for work.
The ring road branch of Barclays Bank for instance was not attending to customers. The entire banking hall was flooded.
At the time the news team was leaving the scene, office equipment had been moved out just to flush out the water.
Most customers who visited the branch were turned away as the banking hall will not be operational on Thursday and Friday.
Just by Barclays is Nasco Ghana limited, dealers in home appliances.
The entire showroom of the company was flooded, and as much as 50,000 Ghana Cedis worth of goods has been lost to the downpour.
Showroom manager, Michael Lawson told Joy Business, the company is overwhelmed by the extent of damage.
“We woke up this morning to find the entire shop flooded. We deal in home appliances and equipment worth about 50,000 cedis has been destroyed. It’s been really bad for us this morning” he laments.
Joy Business also visited the Graphic Road which houses a lot of automobile companies like Toyota and KIA, Rana Motors and Hyundai.
For Toyota, Rana Motors and KIA, their entire spare parts floor was submerged in water and most of their vehicles were also submerged in the floods.
Even though authorities will not speak with us, the damage to properties is very likely to run into millions.
Hyundai also had their entire showroom flushed out by the rains.
Head of human resource management for Hyundai, Emmanuel Lamptey, said the situation is devastating.
“We are not working today, and it is not likely we will work tomorrow. This is the first time since 2011 that we have experienced something like this. We didn’t expect this considering the measures we have put in place to secure our premise”, he explained.
He however assured customers of the safety of their vehicles as they have been moved to a safer area.
