The Commissioner of the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) Wallace Akundor is still at post despite widespread media reports of his dismissal.
Joy Business can confirm Mr Akundor was still carrying out his official duties even as at today, Friday, July 17, 2015.
There have been several media reports especially online that Mr Akundor has been fired – citing sources at the Office of the President. According to the reports, CEPS Head of Imports and Exports, John Vianney Kuudamnuru is to replace him – with a statement also expected to be issued to that effect soon.
But Mr. Akundor has confirmed to Joy Business’ Editor, Emmanuel Agyei in an exclusive interaction that he has not received any official communication to this effect. He wouldn’t give out much information except to say that he is only preoccupied with his rather demanding job until he is officially notified.
Joy Business can also confirm that Mr. Akundor was even at a high level conference held yesterday, Thursday, July 16, 2015 for private and public stakeholders in the import and export sector.
The conference was primarily to increase the knowledge the stakeholders on issues related to CEPS’ planned takeover of the role of Destination Inspection Companies at the country’s ports towards creating a National Single Window.
Mr. Akundor also met officials from the IMF on the same day, Joy Business has gathered.
Mr. Akondor was appointed commissioner May 5, 2014 in a major shake-up which saw him replace Isaac Ofoe Apronti.
