General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia is proposing psychiatric treatment for the Ashanti regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for alleging that some NDC activists were bused from the Northern region to register in the region.  

According to him, such 'frivolous' claims will only come from a 'desperate' person who is only concerned about winning power in the 2016 general elections.  

Some 60 alleged NDC activists were accosted in the Ashanti Region after the NPP Chairman in the region, Antwi Boasiako claimed he picked up intelligence that the NDC were allegedly busing voters to register at the Asawase, Oforikrom, Alabar, New Edubiase and Tepa areas.    

Chairman Wontumi as he is popularly called, handed the culprits over to the Zongo police for further investigations.  

He has vowed to make the region a no-go area for the NDC to execute any diabolic plans in a bid to retain power in 2016.  

But in a rebuttal on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Asiedu Nketia said Chairman Wontumi is an “embarrassment to his party”.  

He said the NDC has better things to do with its limited resources than to bus people from areas where the limited registration exercise is also taking place.  

“If someone comes to register in Kumasi while the same exercise is going on in Bolga then that person has a mental problem” he declared.

General Mosquito as he is affectionately called, was convinced the supposed NDC activists accosted by Wontumi at a lorry station were people who had arrived from the north. “

"The NPP is afraid of its own shadows; they started the busing of people to registration centers in 2000 so they think we are doing the same thing” he added.

Asiedu Nketia feared such action taken by the NPP Chairman if replicated across the country could trigger violence in the country.
