The 2023 U.S. Open women’s singles champion, Coco Gauff, attributes her success on one of tennis’ most important stages to her faith.
Gauff spoke about her trust in God and the things she has been praying for as she has advanced through the Women’s Tennis Association ranks during the trophy ceremony following Saturday’s women’s singles final.
Gauff won the U.S. Open at age 19 and is the youngest American woman to do it since Serena Williams in 1999. She stated: "I don’t pray for results. I just ask that I get the strength to give it my all. Whatever happens happens. I’m so blessed in this life."
Gauff claimed that through overcoming the trials that God places in her life, she grows stronger. She talked about her faith in God and said: "Oh my goodness. It means so much to me. I feel like I’m in shock. That French Open loss was a heartbreak. I realized God puts you through trials. This makes this moment even sweeter than I could imagine."
Ranked no.6, the American played her last match on the 9th of September when she overcame world no.2 Aryna Sabalenka 2-6 6-3 6-2 in the final of the U.S. Open to win her 6th career title.
At present, during this year the American achieved a 45-13 match record. Coco has won 4 titles in 2023 in Auckland, Washington, Cincinnati and U.S. Open.
