As part of its humanitarian gesture and New Year celebrations, Ghanbatt 4 has donated assorted food items such as beverages, cooking oil, tomato puree, bags of rice and clothing to the inmates of St Pierre Home for the Aged located in Kinshasa Commune in Kinshasa Province, which is part of the battalion’s Area of Responsibility (AOR).
This is in line with the desire of Ghanbatt to associate itself with the aged, children and the needy in terms of assisting them in whatever way possible.
They were also feted with variety of cooked foods and soft drinks which personnel of the Ghanbatt assisted in cooking at the home. Though they appeared weak, they danced to the various tunes, reminiscing their youthful days.
Presenting the items on behalf of the Commanding Officer (CO) of Ghanbatt 4 Lt Col FD Arthur, the Ghanbatt Chaplain, Rev (Lt) Rudolph Twumasi said Christmas and New Year was a period of sharing and giving just as the three wise men presented gifts to the infant Jesus. He added that old age was a blessing that is why Ghanbatt could not forget about them, but shares the joy of Christmas and New Year with them and hoped that the good Lord would continue to be with them.
Rev. Sister Odette Diantama, Coordinator of the Home who received the donation, was very appreciative of Ghanbatt’s effort.
She intimated that since the Home was established in 1943 by Cardinal Etsau Fredrick of the Kinshasa Diocese, the inmates have been surviving on donations from the Catholic Hospital of Kinshasa and a few philanthropists as well as the Kinshasa Diocese. She was therefore full of praise and admiration for Ghanbatt for the love shown.
Other members of the Ghanbatt 4 team who were present are Ghanbatt Humanitarian Officer Lt Memuna Musa, Capt Hilda Akuoko, Legal Officer, Lt Nurudeen Quaye, (Ghanbatt Imam) and Capt Philip Zanlerigu (Interpreter).
