Transport operators in the Northern Region are cashing in on the mass movement of people from Accra and Kumasi to Tamale following an impending partial lockdown.
President Akuf-Addo has announced that Accra, Kumasi and parts of the Central Region will be on lockdown from 1:00 am Monday for a fortnight to curb the spread of Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.
After that announcement on Friday, however, natives of other regions have started leaving the towns affected by the lockdown to those that have not.
JoyNews’ Martina Abugri spoke to excited transport operators in Tamale who only experience this type of movement only during Christmas.
A driver at the VVIP bus terminal, Collins Appiah said they are making so much money as people move from the south to the north.
As of Sunday, March 29, Ghana’s confirmed COVID-19 cases stands at 152.
Government hopes the partial lockdown will help curb the spread of the disease but as people move from affected areas to the North, fears of community spread have heightened.
