The Akim Oda Magistrate Court on Friday sentenced two people to a total of 48 months in prison for stealing items valued at GH¢1,700 which belonged to one Master Isaac Fiagbomeh, a student.
Prosper Gblenyoh, who is unemployed and Prince Asiedu, a driver, stole a laptop computer and a video deck belonging to the complainant.
Gblenyoh pleaded guilty to three counts of causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing and was sentenced to 12 months in prison with hard labour on each count to run consecutively.
Asiedu pleaded not guilty to abetment of crime and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour.
An accomplice in the case, Yaw Manu is on the run.
Briefing the court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor, Detective Inspector Kwadwo Ahenkorah said at about 2000 hours on December 31, 2010, the complainant left home for a “watch night church service” at Akim Swedru and when he returned the following day at about 0600 hours, he detected that his burglar proof door had been broken into while his room had been ransacked.
He said the two convicts, destroyed his ceiling fan and made away with the items.
Inspector Ahenkorah said a witness in the case hinted the complainant that Asiedu was in the process of selling a laptop that contained his picture and the police was immediately informed.
He said Asiedu was arrested and he named Gblenyoh as the source of the stolen items and he was also apprehended. The led the police to Agona Swedru to retrieve the stolen items.
