An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded into Police custody a seamstress for allegedly causing harm to her six-year-old daughter for allegedly stealing GH¢40.
Alima Haruna claimed her daughter stole the money from her friend's room but the victim denied the allegation.
As a result of the severe beatings, the victim bled, had a swollen face and hand.
Charged with causing unlawful harm, the court did not take Alima's plea.
She is expected to reappear before the court presided over by Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa on March 28.
The facts as read out by Inspector I.A.A. Ahor, the prosecutor, are that on March 19, Alima accused her daughter of stealing GH¢40 from her friend's room.
The prosecutor said the victim, however, denied it and this infuriated Alima who slapped her and she bled from her nose.
Not satisfied with that, Alima pulled out a wooden ladle with which she beat the victim mercilessly.
As a result the victim suffered bruises all over her body and swollen hands.
A complaint was lodged with the police at the Holy Gardens and the accused person was arrested while the victim was rushed to the hospital where she was treated and discharged.
The prosecutor said the case was transferred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service.
Inspector Ahor said during interrogation, the accused person admitted the offence.
