A lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana says President John Mahama should not to tout uncompleted projects as achievements.
Dr Ransford Gyampo said he has seen many projects started by present and past governments and later abandoned, insisting such projects under construction should not be mentioned as success stories.
He was reacting to President John Mahama's reference to litany of projects which he said were his achievements in an interview with Kumasi-based radio station- Angel FM.
The president, who was assessing his two-year tenure admitted to a number of challenges the country was facing.
He was however quick to refer to a number of projects government had embarked upon- projects he believed could change the fortunes of Ghana's development when completed.
He mentioned a number of road projects, water projects, majority of which are in several stages of completion.
But Dr Gyampo would rather the projects were completed before any praise singing is done.
Assessing the president's two-year tenure, the senior fellow at the Institute of Economic Affairs rated the president highly for his sub-regional activities.
He said the president was able to draw the attention of the international community to the Ebola scourge that was threatening the global community.
Dr Gyampo also applauded the visibility of the police which he said has been able to curtail criminal activity in the country.
The political science lecturer was, however, critical of government's economic performance.
He said the microeconomic instability which resulted from government over-spending ahead of the 2012 elections has caused a lot of damage to the economy.
He said while inflation is rising, unemployment rate is also increasing, a situation which does not bode well for the country.
Citing challenges in the power and water sectors of the economy, Dr Gyampo said the government must sit up and "redeem its image" if it wants to retain power in 2016.
