A member of the opposition New Patriotic Party’s Communications team
Emmanuel Asigri, has alleged that the Electoral Commission of Ghana
with the aid of the National Security is secretly recruiting and
training people ahead of the 2012 elections.
Although he would not state exactly what the people are being trained
for or to do, he only indicated that the trainees are not security
operatives yet they are under training at the Military’s Bondase camp
in the Eastern Region.
He made these allegations when he appeared on Adom TV’s morning show,
Badwam on Friday.
His comments come at the back of a declaration by President Mills that the government will not allow any group of persons in their quest for political power to disturb the 2012 polls.
But Mr. Asigri has challenged the President to first “remove the speck
from his eyes and come again”.
According to him, the NPP has picked intelligence that the undercover
training has been disguised as a program for a task force for the
various District Assemblies.
However, he said the NPP is confident of victory the 2012 elections irrespective of any tactics by government to intimidate the party.
