The Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has called on the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM) to take bold action against workplace harassment, especially against young women.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Accra, the Minister urged the Council to champion the rights and welfare of women in Ghana’s workforce, stressing that too many victims suffer in silence due to fear, stigma, or lack of institutional support.

“Too many young women are silently enduring harassment and exploitation at work,” he said.
“We must end the era where women are taken advantage of in their search for decent employment due to desperation.”
Mr Iddrisu challenged CIHRM to lead reforms that create safe, respectful, and empowering workspaces.

He said the Council must work with government and private institutions to enforce strong HR policies that protect all workers, especially the vulnerable, from abuse and discrimination.
He noted that as the professional body responsible for setting HR standards, the CIHRM is uniquely positioned to drive change and influence national policy on labour practices.

The new Council is expected to provide strategic oversight and shape the Institute’s contribution to Ghana’s evolving human resource landscape.
