The Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, has sued Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, Head Pastor of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, and his church for GH¢10 million over alleged defamatory remarks.

The suit, filed at the Accra High Court, relates to statements allegedly made by the pastor during a church service on September 6, 2026, which were later circulated on social media.

In his statement of claim, Dr. Ayew Afriye, a medical doctor and third-term MP on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party who chaired Parliament's Health Committee from 2021 to January 2025 and now serves as its Ranking Member, said Rev. Owusu Bempah accused him and other NPP figures of plotting to attack him and his church.

The writ quotes the pastor as alleging that some individuals, including Dr. Ayew Afriyie, planned to convey two buses of people from the Ashanti Region to Accra to attack his church.

Dr. Ayew Afriye denies the claim, stating he has never conspired with anyone or attempted to organize any attack against Rev. Owusu Bempah or his church.

He contends the statement is defamatory and intended to injure his reputation as a medical practitioner, legislator and public figure.

He further believes the viral statement has caused him embarrassment, public ridicule and potential damage to his political standing in Effiduase-Asokore.

According to the writ, a video of the alleged statements was published on social media, expanding its reach.

The MP said he publicly called on Rev. Owusu Bempah to retract and apologize if he could not substantiate the allegations, but the pastor instead indicated in a media interview that he was ready to meet him in court.

Dr. Ayew Afriye is therefore asking the court to declare the statements defamatory, award GH¢10 million in damages, order a retraction and unqualified apology on the same platforms where the statements were published, and grant a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from making similar statements against him.

He is also seeking costs, including legal fees.
