Former Deputy Information Minister, Felix Ofosu Kwakye has failed to win the Abura Asebu Kwamankese (AAK) Constituency seat on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Mr. Ofosu Kwakye, he lost by 176 votes.
In a post on Facebook congratulating the NPP's Elvis Morris Donkor, the outspoken politician said a win had been close.
“It was so close yet so far for me. I lost by 176 votes. Congratulations Elvis Morris Donkor and better luck to me next time. I am also deeply grateful to all of you out there who supported my bid in diverse ways,” he wrote.
While the NPP's Donkor polled 25,048 votes representing 49.19 per cent, Ofosu Kwakye got 24, 872 representing 48.84 per cent.
Ghana Union Movement (GUM)'s representative got 1,001 votes representing 1.97 per cent.
The defeat of Mr. Kwakye Ofosu follows an announcement by the NDC's Director of Elections, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah at a press conference Tuesday dawn that the party has flipped the seat from the NPP.
But this was instantly denied by the governing party at a counter-press conference.
According to General Secretary of the party, John Boadu, the NPP has rather taken hold of some seats in the NDC's stronghold and was confidently on its way to retaining its majority status in parliament.
