National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the party will no longer take election-related issues to the courts for redress as far as results are concerned.Â
Speaking at a press briefing Thursday, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo stated that in subsequent polls, the party will be vigilant and take necessary steps to prevent undesired outcomes.
"This will be the last time we will go to court, we will settle matters of elections at the polling station and collation centres," he said.
The NDC had earlier threatened to reject results of December 7 polls.
True to their word, after the elections, they held a series of press conferences rejecting the outcome of the 2020 election, insisting that Jean Mensa's results were "fictitious and flawed".
This led to a series of demonstration across the country by NDC supporters and sympathisers before a petition was filed to seek redress in court.
But a seven-member panel of Supreme Court Judges in a unanimous decision dismissed the election petition filed by the 2020 NDC Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama.
Nonetheless, the National Chairman of the NDC iterated the party's readiness to take every appropriate measure to make sure that the 2020 electoral anomalies are not repeated in subsequent general elections.
According to Mr Ofosu-Ampfo, the rank and file of the NDC will ensure a free and fair elections devoid of unforeseen outcomes.
"And we NDC are taken 2024 very seriously and we will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that the level playing field is provided to ensure that we have free fair elections which outcome will be accepted by everybody."
"We as a party believe that elections are a very serious business, we invest a lot both money and human resources in competing in this election and the electoral commission who is supposed to regulate the elections should take the process seriously," he intimated.
