A five-member committee with an oversight responsibility to manage Ellembelle District Assembly’s Common Fund for persons with disabilities has been inaugurated at Nkroful in the Western Region.
It has Mr Titus Aikens, a civil servant as its Chairman and Mr George Mozu, Chairman of the Nzema-East and Ellembelle Disabled Association as member.
The rest are Mr Matthew Abizi, District Social Welfare Officer, Mr Rexford Afful, a civil servant and Mr Moses Kwaw, an official at the district Education office.
The committee is tasked to meet quarterly to dilate on how the common fund for the disabled should be utilised.
Mr Abizi said as part of a novel policy, the District Co-ordinating Director and the District Finance Officer would be the signatories to the common fund for the beneficiaries.
He said the move formed part of measures to ensure transparency in the disbursement of the fund.
Mr Abizi therefore advised people living with disabilities to open an independent account for the common fund.
On his part, Mr Mozu appealed to the government to finance the association to equip members with vocational skills.
He asked the assembly to disclose the amount of money that would be allocated to the association to clear their minds of any doubts.
Mr Kwaw also appealed to the government to provide the association with a vehicle to enable them pay regular visits to members.
