Michael Essien is promising a fighting display from the Black Stars in their 2010 joint Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers against Sudan on Sunday.
The Chelsea midfielder joined his team mates on Tuesday evening for the match at the Ohene Djan Stadium and says the Black Stars must show the same form that saw them pick up two straight wins and six points in front of an expectant home crowd.
“We must win against Sudan because to qualify for the World cup you must be strong at home and fight away from home. So far we have been strong both home and away and we must continue the rich vein of form,” Essien said on his website.
Essien also wants continuity in his own form. The Ghanaian has driven the Chelsea team in the early part of the season from midfield and says he be hoping to carry the same form into the Ghana game.
“Ghanaians expect us to win every game and that’s what the whole team will be fighting for on Sunday. Hopefully we will be good enough for all three points,” he concluded.
