An exhibition to market Ghana's rich culture and to showcase the photographs of the Heads of State from the first Republic to date opened at the National Museums and Monument Board on Friday. The nine-day exhibition that was planned to coincide with Ghana's 50 years anniversary was mounted by Mr. Thomas Fynn, a Photo Journalist. He organised the show in collaboration with the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, the Ministry of Tourism and Diasporan Relations, and the National Commission on Culture. The exhibition that was organised under the theme "Images Across the Country", captured photographs of interesting cultural settings, traditional dancers, costumes and festivals, parks and gardens, Ghanaian cuisines, artifacts, architecture and emancipation celebrations across the length and breath of the country. The former Heads of State who made Ghana's history and their wives including Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, General I.K. Acheampong, Major General F.W.K. Akuffo, Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, Dr. Hilla Limman, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings and Ghana's current President John Agyekum Kufuor have their photographs exhibited. Professor George Hagan, Chairman of the National Commission on Culture, who opened the exhibition, said Ghana was a cultural setting whose sights and sounds could best be sampled through direct travel experience and a collage of images. He said this was one of the best avenues that the public and especially school children could learn about the history of Ghana. Prof Hagan congratulated Mr. Fynn for exhibiting Ghana internationally, a move which he said would made the country more of a tourist destination and centre of attraction. Mr. Fynn on his part said the exhibition was to portray Ghana's rich traditional culture and tourist endowment to the world and to market the country as a prime trade and investment destination. He said this was part of a programme create a Photo Book of Ghana and a photographic gallery which would showcase some of the finest Ghanaian culture. Source: GNA
