The Family Health Medical School (FHMS) on Thursday held its second congregation ceremony for the second set of graduands, Doctors at Teshie.
This year’s batch of graduands were numbered 47 which comprised of 21 males and 26 females.

The outstanding students who excelled in their various areas of studies were awarded.
They are; Sussie Anku; Best Graduating student in Child Health and Best Graduating student in Community Health, Nicholas Tettey Nartey; Prof Timothy R.B Johnson’s Prize for Best Graduating student in Medicine and Therapeutics and Simon Sackitey; Prof Jonathan Hubert Addy’s prize for best Graduating Student in Medicine and Therapeutics, Best Graduating student in Surgery, Best Graduating student in Clinical Studies, and the Founders prize for overall Best MBChB Graduating student.
Mr Sackitey who carried the day by receiving four awards was also given GHC 1000 by the Chairman of the Family Health Medical School Endowment Fund Board of Trustees, Naa Dr Alhassan Andani for his hard work.

The Founder and President of Family Health University College, Prof E.Y Kwakukume in the President’s report for the 2021 congregation congratulated the graduands.
“Our dear graduands, we are all proud of your accomplishments, and I believe that you are all going to be great ambassadors of Family Health University College, and the profession you have chosen,” he said.
He advised the class of 2021 to continue to learn so as to “acquire knowledge and develop personally and professionally” and to be guided by the code of ethics of the profession upholding the values that have been imbibed in them during their training at the FHMS.

“I implore you to learn and re-learn. Strive earnestly to become Specialist Consultants, Medical Researchers, Innovators, Inventors, and Leaders. Above all a doctor who is well informed on the latest practices and also cares for the wellbeing of patients,” the President of Family Health University College stated.
According to him, management of the College is working towards having a Presidential Charter to make Family Health University College a fully-fledged autonomous University. He, therefore called on stakeholders to throw in their support in order to achieve the goal.
On his part, the special guest of honour, Naa Dr Alhassan Andani in his speech said medical education is not for the faint-hearted. This he said was because of the cost of involved in medical education.
He, however appealed to government to support the college to slash cost of tuition by a 30 percent.

“Government at least as private individuals are taking on the task of graduating Doctors will begin to at least meet them half way with the tuition fees… so that parents and other well-wishers and non-government funds can continue to provide what it takes to provide this important professional service,” he said.
The occasion was graced by Rev. Father Andrew Campbell, Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku, Benjamin Ayiku, Queen mother of Sunyani traditional council, Pishigu Naa who doubles as the Chairman of the Family Health Medical School, Naa Dr Alhassan Andani, Provost of the University of Ghana, Professor Julius N. Fobil etc.
